Problem
State Farm's banking services website had accumulated content without clear organizational structure, making it difficult for customers to find insurance, investment, small business and banking products as the company expanded digital offerings.
What I Did
Audited existing content across insurance and banking product lines. Organized products into logical hierarchical buckets by category. Created taxonomy diagram showing product family relationships and structure.
Impact
Established clear IA foundation for banking services redesign. Improved content discoverability through logical product categorization. Created scalable taxonomy structure for future product additions.
Lessons
Good IA isn't about imposing structure—it's about finding the structure that already makes sense to users and making it visible. Product families should reflect mental models, not org charts.
Began organizing old and new content into logical buckets as part of a redesign and information architecture renovation effort for the company's online banking offering.
